PERIODONTAL TREATMENT

Gingivitis (gum inflammation) is the initial stage of periodontal disease. It can be easily treated with proper hygiene and regular dental checkups from your dentist. Periodontal disease is a chronic bacterial infection in your gums that can lead to those of the gums and bones if left untreated. Your teeth are supported by the gums and bones underneath them. That is why periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss and oral pain. It is caused by plaque, the bacteria on your teeth that turns into a hard substance called calculus. The calculus sets on your teeth and is able to spread below the gum line. When the toxins from the bacteria irritate the gums, your body turns on its chronic inflammatory response and starts attacking anything where the toxins are present. This also includes your gum tissues and bones that support your teeth. It gets worse when pockets are formed between the gums and the teeth. These pockets then get deeper and deeper as more gum tissue and bones are destroyed. This can cause extreme discomfort and you can feel your teeth move. In extreme cases, it leads to tooth loss. With our latest digital imaging systems and diagnostic techniques, we are able to detect this problem and early stages. After assessing the stage of periodontal disease, we can offer different treatment services to help you get rid of it. Our periodontal therapy may be appropriate for more advanced stages of gum disease. It is a non-surgical technique called scaling and root planning which is also known as deep cleaning. In this procedure, we remove the calculus, and toxins above and below the gum line and help the gum tissues to heal and shrink the pockets. This is done under local anesthesia so you will not feel any pain. An extended version of this therapy includes periodontal maintenance, which enables our team to keep a check on your condition and minimize gum disease recurrence.
